Dirty Little Secret: Ramen

Day 5 of the Plague-In and I might be seeing glimmers of pulling through.  Maybe.

I have a dirty little secret that not many folks know about.  I like ramen noodles.  I know, those 15 cent packets of cheap chinese noodles that we all swore we would quit eating once we got out of college.

Well, I still like them.  I justify myself by dressing them up a bit.

Here's what I do:

I saute some chicken (or use leftover rotisserie chicken) and then add whatever vegetables I have on hand to the same pan to saute them until soft enough.

Here's where I change it up a bit.
By adding rice wine vinegar, soy sauce and sesame oil to the pot the broth becomes more of a hot and sour soup kind of mess.
Toss in the noodles to cook.
Just before the noodles are done add all of the chicken and veg to the pot.

Slurpy goodness!

  1. This looked like such a good idea, I had to try it myself. I got out the ingredients, substituting a thing or two, but using the ramen noodles and the same seasoning ingredients. Last minute decision, I threw in some roasted shelled sunflower seeds. Made it sorta crunchy.

Thanks for the idea, Anne! Really nice foodie, "slurpy" blog today. :-) Even Jared wanted some.... and he liked the sauce the best of all. Not so much the veggies, but he did try them.

  2. By the way, my kids gave my creation "the fish eye" and Russ refused to try it. But Jared ended up loving it. My older kid, Russ, said, is there any chicken in this? He was hoping to fish out the pieces he could, and disregard the meat. *sigh*
